Fedora Mini/Moblin

Do your remember Moblin? This project will now be integrated into Fedora Mini - the lightweight Linux distro targetted at Netbooks/Nettops.

Fedora Mini/Moblin

"The Fedora Mini SIG is a group of Fedora contributors that are interested in Fedora on small devices" (like Netbooks & Nettops), as stated on the Fedora Project site.

Fedora Mini could be used to produce various spins for Gnome Mobile development/Intel's Moblin project.

The list of supported hardware is rapidly growing as you can see on this extensive list:

Processor
  • Intel Atom 230 (Diamondville) 1.6 GHz CPU - Fully supported.
  • Intel Atom 330 (Diamondville) Dual Core 1.6 GHz CPU - Fully supported.
  • Intel Atom N270 (Diamondville) 1.6 GHz CPU - Fully supported.
  • Intel Atom N280 (Diamondville) 1.66 GHz CPU - Fully supported.
  • Intel Atom Z5x0 (Silverthorne) 800Mhz, 1Ghz, 1.1Ghz, 1.2Ghz, 1.33Ghz, 1.6Ghz, 1.83Ghz, 2Ghz - Fully supported. NB: This processor contains the GPU onboard, which isn't supported. See Poulsbo entry below.
  • Intel Celeron M (Dothan) 630 MHz, 900 MHz CPU - Fully supported.
  • Via C7-M 1.0GHz, 1.2GHz, 1.6GHz CPU - Fully supported.
  • AMD Geode LX - Fully supported.

Graphics Adapter

  • Intel GMA 950 - Fully supported.
  • Intel GMA 900 - Fully supported.
  • Intel GMA 500 (Poulsbo) - Not supported (there are some 3rd party drivers around but mileage is varied)
  • VIA Chrome 9 - Unknown

Display

  • 7" TFT display with 800x480 resolution - Fully supported.
  • 8" TFT display with 1600x786 resolution - Fully supported.
  • 8.9" TFT display with 1024x600 resolution - Fully supported.
  • 8.9" TFT display with 1280x768 resolution - Fully supported.
  • 10" TFT display with 1024x600 resolution - Fully supported.

Wired Network

  • Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet PCI Controller - Fully supported.
  • Attansic Tech ATL1e - Fully supported.

Wireless LAN Network

  • Broadcom 4322AGN - Needs testing. Possibly supported with b43-openfwwf package.
  • Broadcom 4311AG - Needs testing. Possibly supported with b43-openfwwf package.
  • Broadcom 4312G- Needs testing. Possibly supported with b43-openfwwf package.
  • RT 2860 - Working. Driver not in mainline kernel. Support via 3rd party repo
  • Marvell 88W8388 - Fully supported.
  • Atheros ath5k - Well supported

Wireless WAN Network

  • Dell 5530 (aka Ericsson MBM F3705g) HSPA miniPCI - Fully recognised by kernel not tried with NetworkManager

  • Dell Mini9 (aka Broadcomm BCM2046) - Fully supported.

Audio

  • Intel HDA High Definition Audio Controller
  • ADI1984HD High Definition CODEC

Camera

  • UVCvideo - Fully supported. although some cams might need a quirks entry, Dell Mini9 (Suyin Corp) 0.3MP works without quirks.
