AMD unveiled its platform & CPU roadmaps for the next few years. That roadmap includes a new platform for netbooks & ultraportable computers. The platform will be called Yukon.
The AMD Yukon platform will be out in early 2009 & will consume less than 25 Watts, while providing a balance of performance & power savings.
25 Watts sounds a lot, but Yukon is a platform that includes a CPU and graphics chip. If you compare it to the 2.5 Watt TDP used by the Intel Atom N270 CPU & the 6 Watt of the Intel Chipset it still uses significant more power, hopefully AMD will get the power consumption at a lower level.
According to an editor of Notebooks.com AMD says it will be cheaper & thinner than its other processors, which will let it fit in netbooks. Untill now AMD hasn’t named any OEM partners yet.
