AMD UVC

New roadmap slides from AMD show their new UVC processors. These CPU's are intended for basic PC's, like netbooks.

AMD UVC

Instead of the recently leaked specs from energy efficient Sempron processors, AMD will introduce their UVC processors for netbooks.

The UVC processors include the AMD Athlon X2 3250e with a 22W TDP & operating at 1.5GHz. It features a 1MB L2 cache & should be available in Q4 2008.

The AMD Athlon 2650e has a 15W TDP & operates at 1.6GHz with 512KB cache. The 2650e is available now.

Note that the AMD processors use more power than Intel's Atom, so users have to sacrifice battery life for improved performance. AMD will use their standard socket AM2 & S1g1 notebook infrastructures.

These processors may become attractive to netbook makers looking for an alternative to Intel's Atom CPU because of the current Atom shortages from Intel.

The UVC processors will be available through OEMs only.
