It seems Sony also wants to enter the low-cost mini Laptop market, because a prototype was shown at the WiMAX Expo (part of the Computex show in Taipei)
Shown on contract manufacturer Quanta Computer's stand was the small Laptop featuring a Via 1.6GHz C7-M CPU with Sony listed as the manufacturer.
Specs for the notebook are an 8.9-inch screen, 80GB hard disk, WiFi & Bluetooth. Optional extras include WiMax, AGPS & 3G. This prototype seems to be an Via Openbook reference design, which was announced last week.
It's being reported that "when the existence of Sony's name on the machine was pointed out to a Quanta executive manning the booth, he quickly closed the properties window & declined to explain why Sony was listed as the manufacturer".
The laptop will begin shipping during the 3rd quarter this year, according to Quanta (no prices known yet)
